European Single Electronic Format (ESEF): moving EU digital reporting forward
The European Single Electronic Format (ESEF) is the new digital reporting format for the annual financial reports of the issuers listed on the European Union (EU) regulated markets. This initiative is part of the European Commission's (EC) broader strategy towards increasing the accessibility of the capital markets information to stakeholders. In the language of technology, ESEF annual financial reports must now be prepared in the eXtensible Hypertext Markup Language (XHTML) and IFRS consolidated financial statements must be marked up in the same file with the eXtensible Business Reporting Language (XBRL). This will result in having these financial statements in both human and machine-readable formats (more details in our factsheet).
